2. What is a job post?

what-is-a-job-post
Job posts are simply descriptions of open positions at a company, which include information about the job such as:
  • Title

  • Duties

  • Qualifications

  • Salary

  • Contact information of the recruiters

They are typically published on job boards or careers websites. Aside from that, they may also be distributed through email, social media, or companies' websites.

There are three different types of job posts on Indeed:

  • Basic job posts are free and include up to five job descriptions.

  • Standard job posts cost $75 and include up to 10 job descriptions.

  • Featured job posts cost $375 and include up to 25 job descriptions.

Indeed also offers a paid subscription that allows unlimited job postings.

With Indeed, recruiters can track the number of views and applications their job post receives. They can also contact candidates directly through the platform.

3. Why post jobs on Indeed?

4. Steps to posting jobs on Indeed

Step 1: Open “Post a Job” page

Head to indeed.com/hire and get posting.

If this isn't your first time posting jobs on Indeed, access the job posting page by going to your Employer Dashboard and clicking the “Post a Job” button.

Step 2: Fill-in job details

Following that, you'll be prompted to fill out some basic information that job seekers want. You may be tempted to skip over some information, but providing more details about the position can increase the chance of uncovering exceptional candidates.

Did you know that the majority of job seekers look for jobs during their lunch breaks or after work? Job seekers decide whether or not to apply based on criteria such as skills, WFH/remote, and commute. Providing all of the information they need will guarantee you a better chance of capturing the right candidate’s attention.

Some of the most important information to include is:

  • Pay range

  • Benefits

  • Shift details

  • Location

  • Required qualifications and skills

  • Type of job: Full-time or part-time

  • Work from home/remote work

It is preferable if you input as many details as possible. The more you provide, the more likely your job posting is to appear in the search results for qualified candidates.

Step 3: Create a brief job description

Do you need assistance crafting your job descriptions? We recommend that you make use of Indeed’s job description templates, which cover hundreds of job categories - instead of starting from scratch.

When you publish a position, Indeed will ask you to submit information to the job description box.

A job description should cover all aspects of the open position. It should also be brief and straight to the point. Keep the following tips in mind to ensure that you get the most out of your Indeed job postings:

  • Be very clear with the required qualifications.

  • Write small, easy-to-read paragraphs

  • Bullet points

  • Easy-to-understand vocabulary.

  • Use an upbeat, friendly tone.

Step 4: Include applicant qualifications and assessments

On the Applicant Qualifications page of Indeed, numerous pre-made questions can help you evaluate your candidates easier. Otherwise, you may choose to add your own question set.

If the candidate does not meet your requirements, you can also set up an auto-rejection message. This will speed up the recruiting process - as well as allow you to gain the trust of the candidates.

Recruiters can also add assessments to test candidates’ skills. These include general skills and specific tests based on clients’ requirements.

Step 5: Choose free or Sponsor jobs

Posting jobs on Indeed is mostly free; however, you might want to choose the Sponsor option to reach a bigger candidate pool.

Sponsoring can be helpful for recruiters looking to approach more candidates. You only have to pay for the performance of the job post - not to mention, monitoring is pretty easy, as you can start, pause or stop recruiting posts at any time.

Step 6: Get feedback on your job description

Before you post a position, get it evaluated by your coworkers and clients - so that if need be you can fine-tune the job description for maximum relevancy and exposure.

When posting a job on Indeed, it is important to include all of the relevant information to attract the right candidates:

  • Job title

Not only does the title need to be clear and concise, but it should also accurately reflect the duties of the position.

  • A brief description of the role

This should give potential candidates an overview of what the job entails.

  • List the qualifications required

This will help ensure that only qualified candidates apply for the position.

  • Benefits package

Always include benefits that highlight company values and what can be offered.

  • How to apply

Provide an easy-to-follow procedure with clear contact information.

5. How to track the results of your Indeed job postings

There are several ways to track the results of your Indeed job postings using the "My Jobs" section.

First, you can view the total number of applications received for each posting. This information is available on the main dashboard for your account.

In addition, you can also see how many views each posting has received and the average number of views per day - which can help understand how effective your posting is in reaching prospective candidates.

Finally, Indeed allows you to track the conversion rate of your postings - i.e, the percentage of applicants who ultimately get hired. This data is available on the job posting page under the Insights tab.

6. Tips for getting the most out of Indeed job postings

Ready to get started with Indeed and serious about maximizing exposure to your jobs? Here are some quick tips (and useful resources) to ensure that you’re consistent with Indeed’s posting guidelines:

Tip 1: Real jobs only please

Each posting should represent a real and currently available job.

Tip 2: Clear job titles - no click-baits

Job titles should be the name of the particular job as it might appear on a business card, with no extra information. Job descriptions are where work location, required degrees, company perks, and other specifics should be detailed.

Tip 3: Be specific and appropriate

Provide as much information about the job as you can. Add all requirements, duties, and benefits.

Don’t use inappropriate language. (No profanities!). Avoid “he/she,” or words that indicate candidates’ age, gender identity, or nationality. For example, instead of “native English speaker” use “English proficiency.”

Tip 4: Make use of available features

Remember to make use of Indeed's numerous services, such as employee evaluations and pay comparisons. These might assist you in figuring out if a candidate is a suitable match for your client.

Use the search option to narrow down your results, then go through the resume database to identify eligible applicants who aren't actively looking for work.

Click on the Pin icon.

Fill out the location form.

The required fields are Address, Town/City, and State because Indeed will be taking this information.

NOTE: To give them the free (and best) visibility, the jobs should be posted in a city and not a county

Keep The Location Name generic as Candidates will be able to view the information.

5. Your jobs should adhere to Indeed's Quality Standards.

Once they are posted and meet Indeed's requirements if you don't yet have an Indeed account, you need to reach out to Indeed by submitting the form on this page with the following message:

“I am a new client of Vincere, an Integrated ATS with Indeed, and my jobs are included in their comprehensive XML feed. I need a CS rep to review my jobs to determine if they are suitable for organic visibility per Indeed’s Quality Standards.“

If you already have an account, you should log in to Indeed and request help from within your account.
